Java

Installing JAVA (JDK) in CentOS:
  1. Get JDK in bin version (download JDK from SUN, now ORACLE):
    wget http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/VerifyItem-Start/jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin?BundledLineItemUUID=SxdIBe.p.5cAAAEniGUHYK65&OrderID=MptIBe.pxtoAAAEnemUHYK65&ProductID=6XdIBe.pudAAAAElYStRSbJV&FileName=/jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin
  2. Rename it:
    mv jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin\?AuthParam\=1269946915_26c1e91c1a30d7ac93be174d5be131d6\&TicketId\=nodzBFoUTnRxlOQhnUCbVZ2bcA\=\=\&GroupName\=CDS\&FilePath\=%2FESD6%2FJSCDL%2Fjdk%2F6u18-b07%2Fjdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin\&File\=jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin
  3. Make it executable:
    chmod +x jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin
  4. Run it (it will just expand all the files):
    ./jdk-6u18-linux-i586.bin
  5. Create a folder, where you willl keep JAVA instalations:
    mkdir /usr/java
  6. Put your JAVA instalation there:
    mv /root/install/jdk1.6.0_18 /usr/java/
  7. Add JAVA_HOME variable and modify PATH variable:
    cd /etc
    cp profile profile.ORIG
    vi profile
